With the rise of social media, more and more pictures have to be taken and it is imperative that we look good in them! One of the challenges that ladies go through when taking pictures or when having their pictures taken of them is how to pose. A lot of social media influencers seem to have it all under control. In fact, they make it look so effortless! The rest of us normal folk, on the other hand, end up looking a degree more awkward than we usually do. Because of this, we’ve come up with a few tips and tricks to help you look better in your pictures.
Place one foot in front of the other.

When pictures of us are taken, our automatic response is usually to stand very stiffly. If you put one foot forward, however, you will look so much better because this way, you are creating a shape with your body. You will also look longer so you’ll look taller and slimmer.

Movement is allowed

Since we automatically go towards the awkward stiff pose, we unconsciously restrict ourselves to move when we are being photographed. It is actually okay to move, and it is even better because you will look more confident and more natural in photos. Movement in pictures always gets credit for being more interesting, so have fun with all the moves you can think of!

Use props

Standing stiffly is one challenge that most of us face. Another challenge is deciding what to do with your hands. Awkward poses usually come from misplaced arms and hands, so one good way to get rid of this problem is to hold something. Anything at all will do. Your purse will do fine, but a cup of coffee, a dog, an umbrella, or sunglasses might create a better photo.

Practice on mirrors

The mirror selfie is one thing that is very common these days. Once you’re in front of a mirror, you just can’t resist the urge to take a picture of your outfit for the day. Since you’re doing this anyway, this is a good time to practice your poses. You already have your phone as a prop, and you’ll see your body’s shape and curves so it is a great way to gauge how good you’re getting at posing. Situate your camera between your chest and your chin to get the perfect angle. You don’t want to look stout or weird-looking. If your mirror selfies look great, post them too! They can definitely upgrade your feed.

Sit down

Standing usually makes people feel more exposed so sitting down might help you a lot. Being in a more relaxed and calmer state will make you look more comfortable on the camera as well. If you can find levels in your environment, use them. You don’t necessarily need a chair or a couch. You can sit on stairs (and elongate your body!), on the flooring, or even on railings.

Include the background

While selfies have their own charm, full-body pictures usually look better when they are wider. There’s a good chance that you want your picture taken because you’re in a beautiful place so let your surroundings share your frame. Make the photographer step back and capture the whole scene – not just you. If you already have a certain frame in your head, it would be nice to take it before you enter the frame. This way, you’ll visualize it a degree better for your friend.

Look over the shoulder

Over-the-shoulder shots are always flattering. It might seem cliché but it is overused for a good reason. There is a high possibility that the shot you will take will turn out great so don’t be afraid to take a lot of it.
Look somewhere else.

There are a multitude of reasons why you wouldn’t want to look straight into the camera. You might not have makeup on. You might not feel your best. You might not feel comfortable enough. If any of these cross your mind while a camera is pointed at you, you can definitely just look away. If you look sideways, your angle and facial shape will be highlighted. This will always be an attractive pose when taken correctly. On top of that, there is a certain candid quality to it that makes it look more natural and effortless. Another option for you to look down. Looking at the flooring might not sound right but it is a surefire way to look good in a picture. It’s also a way to look effortless when you’re actually shy or not ready.

There you have it! There are a number of ways to look good in a picture but these basic tips will surely bring you a long way. Knowing these by heart is a good investment. You’ll never have to worry about looking bad in a photo ever again!
